Did you know that asthma is the most common serious chronic illness of childhood and the number one reason for school absenteeisms? The American Lung Association of San Diego and Imperial counties offer an asthma education program to help. Open Airway for Schools seeks to empower children with asthma, ages 8-11, by teaching them how to prevent and manage their asthma.
The curriculum incorporates an interactive teaching approach utilizing group discussion, stories, games and role-play to promote children's active involvement in the learning porcess. Open Airways for Schools is taught by trained volunteer instructors. The program is conducted over six 40-minute session held once a week during school hours.
