ASTHMA WALK ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30
Fourth Annual Event takes place at De Anza Cove, Mission Bay

San Diego's fourth annual Asthma Walk takes place on Sunday, October 30 in Mission Bay Park. AsthmaWalk raises money for the programs of the American Lung Association and increases awareness about asthma, an incurable condition that affects approximately 314,000 children and adults in San Diego County. For information contact Betsy Shoup at 619-683-8642 or visit,www.lungsandiego.org

Asthma has no cure. It is a chronic condition that can be life-threatening unless properly managed. "We're excited to be raising money and raising the visibility of a disease that is keeping both kids and adults feeling left out and left behind," said Janie Davis, President and CEO of the American Lung Association of San Diego & Imperial Counties.

The Aetna Foundation is sponsoring the San Diego 5-mile Asthma Walk. Toyota Prius and Glaxo Respiratory Institute are national sponsors of the event. AsthmaWalk, now in more than 150 communities throughout the United States, supports local education, prevention, and patient services.

Celebrating 100 years of progress in fighting lung disease through prevention, research, and education, the American Lung Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties originated the Lung Express program, conducts the annual SCAMP Camp and other efforts to assist children with asthma; leads in advocacy for the creation of tobacco-free communities and better air quality; supports lung research; educates health care providers and the public about lung health.
