Nursing Homes Rated
Not all nursing homes are created equal! 44% of the 1,212 reporting nursing homes in 2000-2001 did not meet minimum nurse staffing level requirements. Now Californians have a powerful new tool that provides more information about nursing home home quality than residents of any other state. Thanks to the California HealthCare Foundation, a new interactive Web site brings detailed info on the state's nursing homes at the click of a mouse. The site offers comparisons of individual nursing homes against statewide averages for many factors that affect qaulity of care such as nurse staffing and pay, clinical performance measures and number of complaints and deficiencies.
The California Nursing Home Search can be found at www.calhs.org. A Spanish-language printed supplement is available free of charge by calling 1-800-278-0990; this publication also will be distributed via several Spanish-language nespapers.
