FDA Approves Spiriva
An inhaled treatment that can help victims of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Spiriva HandiHaler is expected to be on sale by midsummer, according to the maker, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Spiriva is designed for one-a-day use to help open narrowed bronchial pathways, easing breathing in patients suffering from COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
