Volunteer Info
The Better Breathers Club (BBC) provides education and support to its members. There are currently six active chapters, and 2500 people on the mailing list for the BBC. The BBC benefits from the services of volunteers in several ways

Presentations at meetings
Individual with expertise in respiratory health or other areas of interest to adults with lung disease are always welcome to contact ALA SD/IC about speaking. Contact Amelia Barile Simon at 619-297-3901 or amelia@lungsandiego.org

Club advisors
Each chapter of the BBC is served by a professional advisor. These individuals are usually either a respiratory therapist or a nurse. The club advisor's role is to advise the club members in medical matters, help locate appropriate speakers and to help facilitate referrals to the club. Regular attendance at meetings is not required.

Club officers
The BBC meetings are coordinated by the members themselves. People with lung disease and their interested family members are always needed to help fill volunteer positions such as President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and others.

Medical equipment
ALA SD/IC does not accept donations of medical equipment or medications. However, we do keep a list of individuals who have a need for equipment, and those who have equipment available, and may be able to arrange a connection between the individuals. Respiratory equipment that is sometimes available includes oxygen systems and concentrators, nebulizer machines, air filters and others.

Health Fair Representatives
Volunteers are needed to staff the Association's booth at health and career fairs which are held throughout the community. Display and handouts are available at the ALA office. Your time commitment is usually about 4 hours. Contact diane@lungsandiego.org.

In-house Volunteers
Our offices in San Diego and Imperial Valley need help with office/clerical work such as labeling over 7,500 newsletters monthly, assembling lung health packets that are mailed out, and many daily tasks. Contact In-house.

Speakers Bureau
Qualified speakers can appear at local businesses, schools, and senior centers that request a speaker to visit their facility to talk on lung health issues. Your presentations would last anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour. Handouts are provided. Contact diane@lungsandiego.org.

Lung Function Screenings
Qualified medical staff is needed to conduct lung function screenings in the San Diego area. You would conduct spirometry screening and counsel individuals who may have asthma. Contact diane@lungsandiego.org.

Program Interns
Interns are a valuable part of the ALA SD/IC team. Internships are available each semester/quarter for both undergraduate and graduate-level college students. Areas of internship include asthma, tobacco, tuberculosis, environmental health, influenza and program evaluation.

If you are interested in an internship or have questions about internship, contact Lorna Hardin at lorna@lungsandiego.org or 619-297-3901.
