Air Quality in Schools
The federal Healthy Schools Act requires schools to follow new guidelines for "Least-Toxic Integrated Pest Management" (IPM). Improved lung health in children is one key result of the approach.
In San Diego County, these new guidelines are explained through the Lung Association’s Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools program, supported by a grant from the Environmental Protection Administration. The Association can help school administrators to use proactive, low-cost measures to protect the air quality inside school buildings. For more information contact Jan@lungsandiego.org
New resource for better
school design: The EPA Indoor Environments Division offers web-based resources to help communities and design professionals integrate good indoor air quality practices into the design, construction, renovation, and operation and maintenance of K-12 school facilities.
