Join youth from around
San Diego County to STOP
the promotion of tobacco - America's deadliest habit!!
in TV, movies, music, and magazines.
Target Hollywood will be targeting celebrities and companies that choose to glamorize or promote tobacco.
Sign-up to learn how tobacco companies use your favorite celebrities to build the appeal of an addictive and deadly product.
Who's in charge -
the tobacco industry or you?
Activities:
- Thumbs Up! Thumbs Down! Hackedemy Awards! Watch movies and report on who is promoting tobacco use.
- Phlemmy Awards! Watch your favorite television programs and grade them on whether they are promoting tobacco use or not. Youth from Sacramento and Los Angeles are also participating in the Phlemmys.
- You can write letters to your favorite celebrities who are promoting tobacco use.
- Target Hollywood participants will be writing letters and making phone calls to their favorite magazines that are advertising tobacco to make sure they stop promoting a deadly habit.
- Target Hollywood participants will help educate everyone including the entertainment industry about the problem of youth tobacco use and how the tobacco industry targets youth.
- Target Hollywood will also congratulate and recognize those celebrities, magazine editors, television show and/or movie producers who say "No" to the tobacco industry.
- Not only do you get to watch the movies, you can plan the press conference to release the results.
- You will get to plan and participate in press conferences exposing the tobacco industry.
- You will read inside tobacco industry documents that reveal their plan to learn everything about youth likes/dislikes, and how the media helps them in their mission to addict youth.

Opportunities for Youth
You Can:
- Be a Spokesperson @ Media Events.
- Be an advocate for tobacco-related policy changes.
- Participate in "Sting" Operations with Law Enforcement and Internet Policing.
- Testify and/or write letters on tobacco-related issues and ordinances to City Councils, Board of Supervisors, and County Commissioners, as well as communicate with other elected officials and associations or organizations, etc.
- Write letters or news articles on tobacco-related issues to major print media (newspapers) and your own school newspaper.
- Help develop tobacco-related city and/or county ordinances.
- Participate in tobacco-related campaigns, such as the World No Tobacco Day 2000.
- Get free training about Media Advocacy.
